Taco Bell Corp. is a California-based fast service restaurant chain that specializes in Mexican style fast food. Taco Bell--with 1995 sales in the United States of $3.5 billion dollars--held the largest share of the Mexican-style restaurant market in the United States. In mid-1997 the fast food chain was owned by the giant PepsiCo empire and was expected to soon become part of the restaurant holding company TRICON Global Restaurants, Inc., a far cry from its modest beginnings as a hot dog stand.




Mexican Pizza

Ingredients for Taco Bell Mexican Pizza

  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1-1.2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp dried minced onion
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 8 (6-inch) flour tortillas
  • 1 cup Crisco vegetable shortening
  • 1 (16) oz can refried beans
  • 2/3 cup mild salsa
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced tomato
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced black olives


  1. Preheat over to 400 degrees.
  2. Brown ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add salt, onions, paprika, black pepper, chili powder and water.
  4. Let simmer over medium heat 8-10 minutes. Stir frequently.
  5. Heat the Crisco shortening in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
  6. Fry each tortilla for about 45 seconds per side or until golden brown.
  7. Drain on paper towels.
  8. Heat refried beans in the microwave.
  9. To assemble the pizza, cover one tortilla with refried beans, then spread on the taco flavored meat.
  10. Add another tortilla on top of the mixture.
  11. Coat the stacked tortillas with salsa.
  12. Add tomatoes, cheeses, onions and olives. Stacking in that order.
  13. Place pizzas in the oven for about 10 minutes or until the cheeses melt.
